South Brittany
South Brittany is an ideal choice for those who like a taste of 'real' France without having to travel too far, the beaches are superb, from the small sandy coves of the Morbihan coast to the huge expanse of La Baule, or the 14 miles of beaches at Presqu'ile de Rhuys with its pretty villages.
The Bretons are extremely proud of their language and culture, not to mention their food, and you will find an abundance of museums including the French Resistance museum at St Marcel (about 10 miles drive) and many more traditional museums. Golfers will find plenty of superb golf courses to choose from.
During the summer months there are floodlit concerts and medieval pageants at various locations including the excellent 'Son et Lumiére' in Elven (about 5 miles). For the motor enthusiast, the Motor Museum at Loheac is only a 1 hour drive away and is a must. It includes every type of Lamborghini ever made along with a superb model display. The drive up will take you through the lovely village of La Gacilly where the famous Yves Rocher cosmetics are made.
For animal lovers the park at Branfére (about 15 miles) is one of the most popular attractions. All of the animals are out in the open. Wallabies and Lemurs will come right up to you giving you the chance to take home some wonderful photographs set against the backdrop of the Chateau Branfére.
Day trips are available from Vannes and Quiberon to the fabulous islands in the Golfe du Morbihan. Some trips include an â la carte meal, others staying at each island for a short period.
All over South Brittany you will find 'ville fleuri' with beautiful unspoilt traditional Breton houses, chapels and churches. Guernsey people will come accross some familiar names like Martel & Le Page.
